Sydney Rocks Pre-Launch Pop-Up, M Restaurant, London

On Sunday the 27th November I attended the Sydney Rocks Oyster and Burger Bar pop up event held at M Restaurants in Threadneedle Street. Myself and my girlfriend walked in to be greeted with a glass of prosecco, and were swiftly seated. After chatting with the director, we certainly had a greater knowledge of Oysters and the reasons for opening their new restaurant Sydney Rocks, he explained, is intended to make the fine dining experience affordable to anyone.
After finishing a glass of prosecco we were introduced to 3 different types of raw Oysters each, our favourite being the French Gillardeau Oyster, dressed in Ponzu and Wasabi Tobaki. As described by one of the directors, this is the 'Rolls Royce of Oysters' and, as you can imagine, it was extremely tasty. I must say, I have never been fully convinced on Oysters, until eating them here.
We were then moved to the dining area to be seated for our 4 Course meal. To start, we had 2 cooked Oysters; 1 with Tomato, Feta, Ouzo & Basil, and the other was cooked with Garlic Butter, Parmesan & Paprika. Both tasted amazing, and to be honest it was definitely my favourite part of the meal. I had never tasted cooked Oysters before and they certainly did not disappoint. There was so much flavour, but not too much to hide the taste of the delicious Oysters.
Following the cooked Oysters, we then tried grilled octopus with chorizo and orange pomegranate fennel. Another tasty dish. The main dish was a Signature Burger; 21 day aged 8 oz grass fed free range beef, topped with Porchetta, Truffle Champagne Gruyère Emulsion, Tomato Confit & Bourbon Onion Jam. Definitely one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. The quality of meat was outstanding and cooked to perfection.
Then for Dessert, we got our hands messy with some doughnut balls with vanilla coconut custard, washed down with a shot of toasted marshmallow and vanilla milkshake. The milkshake and the marshmallow flavours were lovely and my sweet tooth was certainly satisfied. The doughnut balls however were a little dry, but not enough to dampen the evening.
If Sydney Rocks maintains a standard of food as high as this through the series of pop-up events planned pre-restaurant launch (Director let out that venues in Shoreditch are likely) then I've no doubt this restaurant will be a huge success.
Sydney Rocks plans to open Summer 2017. Keep a look out for more of their pop-up events until then.
