Tea at The Ritz, Picadilly

Tea at The Ritz, Picadilly

Afternoon Tea At The Ritz; unquestionably the most divine experience that should be on every Afternoon Tea fanatic's repertoire. The Ritz in London's Picadilly continues to proudly shine as the crème de la crème of all Aftenoon Tea and Hotel experiences since 1906 when it was opened by Swiss Hotélier, César Ritz. A treasured favourite amongst Royalty, Politicians, Celebrities, Actors, Writers, this palace of prestige encompasses everything that radiates elegance, sophistication and luxury.

Tea At The Ritz, is served in Palm Court, a space that effortlessly transports its guests back to 18th century France. The French Neo-Classical backdrop was inspired by France's King Louis XVI in the 1760's and his influence resonates throughout. The warming, coral hues of the walls complement the white and gold furniture, notably the oval-back chairs, that were designed by Waring and Gillow. The panelled mirrors within their bronze frames intensifies the sense of space and grandiosity that is contained underneath a breathtaking, hand-crafted ceiling.

Our Afternoon Tea consisted of a selection of quintessentially British sandwiches:
- Scottish Smoked Salmon and Lemon Butter on Rye Bread,
- Cucumber Sandwich with Cream Cheese, Dill, on Caraway Seed Bread,
- Egg Mayonnaise Sandwich with Chopped Shallots and Watercress on White Bread,
- Chicken Breast Sandwich with Horseradish Cream on White Bread,
- Cheddar Cheese Sandwich with Chutney on Rye Bread
- Ham Sandwich with Grain Mustard

The cakes that crowned our tier were superb; several berry tarts, a really fresh and flavoursome strawberry macaron, a chocolate and caramel fondant and a hazelnut choux. Our Afternoon Tea was served with champagne and endless refills of sixteen different kinds of fine tea. This experience was heightened with the beautiful sound of a pianist and the opulence of a gold fountain amongst palm trees was rather mystical. When we were finished and the other guests had finished, the Manager invited us to stay as late as we pleased and offer us several more glasses of their magnificent Rosé Champagne to enjoy in the rest of the hotel. I cannot emphasise enough how fantastic this experience was and I'll never forget feeling like royalty for an evening.

This was an event that I will never forget and was so enjoyable. The atmosphere would not have been so relaxed and enjoyable without the staff who were really kind and helpful. My friend and I chatted away until 10.30pm at night where we were then offered a seat in the rest of the hotel with two more glasses of the hotel's Rosé champagne on the house. We were truly spoilt and I think it will be hard to find somewhere that going's to top Palm Court's Tea and Tea the Ritz!
