Spaghetti House, Goodge St

Spaghetti House, Goodge St

You may have seen the bright lights of Spaghetti House across London. It's an Italian chain that opened its doors on Goodge St in 1955 by the Lavarani Family. A family-run business, their ethos remains strong 62 years later. During Post-War Britain, Spaghetti House was welcomed with open arms and hungry stomachs. The bold Italian flair, home-made recipes using quality ingredients and Italian style appealed especially to the younger generation. It was even one of the first restaurants in London at the time to have real Italian coffee machines - but has the novelty worn off? Certainly not. The success of their restaurants, now 10 of them across London, has grown from two generations of commitment to delicious Italian cooking based on family heritage that is accessible to everyone.

Italian classics that we all love such as lasagne, spaghetti bolognese and tiramisu have remained firm favourites on the menu. But over the years, the menus have evolved. Variations on classics keeps things fresh and current. There's stone-baked pizza and pizzette (smaller pizza), pasta classics, pasta all'uovo (pasta made with egg), meat and fish and salads. The Pasta for example, poses a real challenge. They all sound delicious. Tagliatelle Gratinate Al Salmone, Kiln smoked salmon cream, baby spinach & Sicilian fennel seeds, Linguine Vongole In Bianco, Fresh Palourdes clams, white wine, chilli, garlic
& extra virgin olive oil get stomachs rumbling
whilst you feast on their green olives and a sweet Orvieto DOC Casasole Classico amabile wine from Umbria.

Torta Settevelli & the Coppa di Bosco are some of the fantastic authentic Italian desserts on the menu

In its original setting, the Spaghetti House on Goodge St is a wonderful image of London's restaurant scene that has survived the monopoly of London's food ever-changing trends and the economic bashing London's faced over the last decades that have seen many restaurants go.  Spaghtti House is most suited to intimate family gatherings and romantic dates and if you're looking for a piece of Italy in the city, this place is well worth a visit.
